Crafting Beauty, Building Confidence: The Story of Limuel Abellanida
For Limuel Abellanida, makeup is more than beauty. It is art, confidence, and passion combined. He is a professional makeup artist, pageant gown and outfit designer, and an Instructor 3 at the University of Batangas, where he teaches Bachelor of Physical Education majors. With eight years of experience in makeup artistry, he has developed both skill and passion for transforming faces.
What started as curiosity became a full-fledged profession. His journey began at home with a sister who frequently joined pageants. Limuel became her assistant and learned by observing other artists and watching YouTube tutorials.
As a lover of pageantry, Limuel finds inspiration in seeing his clients step confidently onto the stage. “When my clients are happy with my makeup, I feel motivated,” he shares. For him, applying makeup is personal, especially when working on loved ones. He carefully considers what suits each individual best and enhances their features without overpowering them.
Limuel strongly believes that makeup is a form of art. “You design the face and mix colors to match the client’s skin tone and texture. It’s like drawing,” he explains. As someone who also teaches art, blending colors comes naturally to him. Among all techniques, he considers shaping eyebrows the most challenging, saying they are the foundation of a makeup artist’s skill.
Today, beauty standards can affect a person’s self-esteem more than ever. Limuel acknowledges that bullying still exists, and many people struggle with insecurities. He sees makeup as a confidence booster and even a coping mechanism for some. “Makeup empowers you because it raises your confidence,” he says.
He also recognizes the growing inclusivity in the beauty industry, citing pageants like Miss Universe, which have opened doors to the LGBTQ+ community. For him, beauty celebrates diversity and unity.
If there is one thing he would change, it is the pressure for cosmetic surgery. “We don’t need surgeries to be beautiful. Makeup can do it,” he says.
Ultimately, Limuel Abellanida’s work goes beyond makeup and design. He aims to empower people to see their own worth. More than transforming appearances, Limuel’s work transforms how people see themselves. Through his artistry, teaching, and advocacy for inclusivity, he proves that beauty is by confidence, resilience, and self-acceptance.
